Economics and the Environment:
A Partnership that Works!

The UWP Center for Economic Education will be presenting a workshop on economics and the environment to provide middle and high school teachers with an economic conceptual framework for analyzing environmental issues. This workshop will help teachers move beyond the starting point of a general concern for the environment to an appreciation of how economics can be used to gain insight into the causes of environmental problems and how economic analysis can help in the development of effective and efficient environmental policy.
Benefits to Teachers and Their Students
- The workshop addresses Wisconsin’s Social Studies-Economics Performance Standards D.8.(2,5,11) and D.12.(2,10,12,14) and Wisconsin’s Academic Standards for Environmental Education D.8.(1,8) and D.12.(1,3,8,9).
- The workshop is available for Continuing Education, undergraduate, or graduate credit. Scholarships available
Curriculum Resources
- Participants will be given access to the UW-Parkside Center for Economic Education web learning platform called Desire2Learn where they will have access to additional economics curriculum materials.
- Each participant will receive a hard copy of Economics and the Environment: EcoDetectives is a 15-lesson curriculum designed to show how teachers and students can use economic reasoning in efforts to describe and explain important environmental problems. Published by the National Council on Economic Education ($35 value).
