Awards Program

 

The John Morton Excellence in the Teaching of Economics Awards

 

 

The Global Association of Teachers of Economics is pleased to announce that is now accepting nominations for the GATE teachers of the year awards program. Renamed beginning this year to honor one of the leading figures in the development of economic education, the John Morton Excellence in the Teaching of Economics Awards recognize excellence in teaching of economics and financial literacy. The awards honor teachers whose innovative teaching concepts improve and stimulate economic understanding. The awards program is open to all K-12 teachers that are GATE members.  Any classroom teacher may use a self-nomination process or one may be nominated by other teachers, department chairs, principals and superintendents. 

 

Awards will be given in three teaching categories:

1) Grade levels K-4
2) Grade levels 5-8
3) Grade levels 9-12

  

The criteria that will be used to judge the successful teacher include:

 

Candidates who teach students basic principles and concepts of economics and/or financial literacy  

Candidates who create innovative lessons and engage students in the study of economics and/or financial literacy

Candidates who foster student success and strive for a greater understanding of economics and/or financial literacy for their students

 

Entries must include:

  • Teachers name
  • Name of the school
  • School address and phone number
  • Type of class and the grade level
  • Description of the teacher's philosophy of teaching
  • Description of the teaching approach and successful strategies used that produce understanding of economic and/or financial literacy concepts

 

The application form can be found on the GATE website: www.ncee.net/gate . Please submit completed nominations via e-mail only to Kevin Smith at the National Council on Economic Education at. You will receive a confirmation message when your application has been received.
