Youth Enterprise Academy

A summer program for Milwaukee Public School 9th & 10th Grade Students

Students from Milwaukee Parental Choice Schools, charter schools,
MPS, and Milwaukee area private schools are invited to apply.

•  June 14 - June 18, 2010

•  June 21 - 25, 2010

Leadership, Economics and Personal Finance


The Youth Enterprise Academy will provide students the skills needed to be successful
in high school and beyond.  The academy will focus on the steps students can take to become an economic success.  This nine day summer program introduces students to
how our free market economy works and individual roles within the economy. Talented
and knowledgeable teachers will explain how the economic choices students make
today can influence their chances for future success.

Special Features

  • Tips on how to prepare for college while you are in high school
  • Principles of personal investing:  spending, saving, credit, forms of investing
  • Analyze corporations to decide whether to buy, hold, or sell their stock
  • Overview of how our market economy works
  • Introduction to the economic way of thinking
  • Guest speakers from Milwaukee area businesses
  • Field trip to the Chicago Federal Reserve and Chicago Board of Trade

We are seeing young people who wish to be successful academically and economically.  Each student who attends all sessions, is an active participant and completes all assignments will receive a $500.00 U.S. Savings Bond.

You must currently be a 9th or 10th grade student in the Milwaukee Public Schools to

Essay - Write a one or two paragraph essay addressing why you would like to participate in the Youth Enterprise Academy .  Explain why you're interested in being successful in school and in your community.  Please mention any special interests you might have in business. Neatness and spelling count! Be sure to attach your essay to the application.
